Decorative tiles were incredibly popular during the Victorian era with William Morris and William De Morgan leading the way with their floral stylised designs.
Our fireplace tiles are hand made using traditional tubeline techniques where the raised pattern on the tile is applied by hand using clay slip and the tile is then fired. The coloured glazes are then added and the tile fired for a second time. The process is both time and labour intensive but the finish is true to the originals.
The patterns are copied from original designs and the double firing makes the tiles resilient to heat. There are often cracks in the glazed surface which is perfectly natural and adds to the authenticity.
Please be aware that different batches may come out in slightly different shades which is due to the firing process.
