Fireplace Baskets

Fireplace baskets were mainly from the Georgian period as the forerunner to the Victorian cast iron fireplaces, but were still produced right through the Victorian era and later. Ideally the baskets need to be set well back into an inglenook or have a low canopy over the top. This is so the smoke and fumes don't spill into the room.
Fire baskets can be very plain such as the swans nest with fire dogs, or very decorative, often depending on the status of the room where they were fitted.
