Solid slate hearth suitable for gas fires only.
We do not recommend the use of slate with solid fuel fires due to the high maintenance involved. Slate needs to be oiled regularly with slate oil in order to keep it clean when using solid fuels. This is because ash smudges on slate when you try to wipe it.
A good alternative without the hassle are the granite hearths.
