Fireplace Inserts

Cast iron fireplace inserts were used as the main feature in many Georgian and Victorian homes. They were used with fireplace surrounds or mantelpieces which would be made from wood, marble, alabaster, slate or cast iron. The cast iron inserts may have been decorative or plain to suit changing tastes throughout the period, Victorian fireplaces later having decorative tiles added.
